Hour and minute hands that move independently, a clear printed face, and a 24-hour ring on the inner dial for when a child is ready for the next step. This is a hands-on way to make telling time something you do, not just something you are told.
Turn the hands to set breakfast, school and bedtime, and the abstract idea of clock time becomes concrete. It sits happily on a shelf or table and earns its place as a first real introduction to hours and minutes.
